School Trips

We specialise in offering schools midsummer adventure sailing in the Solent area. These charters start from Gun Wharf at the entrance to Portsmouth lasting from Monday to Friday. The students, besides having full involvement in the sailing and running of Alice, will see a number of the Solent Harbours, they will learn about tides, and be given a background of the amazing maritime history of the Solent area. They will all have an opportunity to take the helm, will learn to tie the most useful nautical knots, and will have had some excellent times whilst Alice is moored alongside some of the most beautiful sandy beaches.

On Alice we can carry 12 but this number can be increased to 19 when working in conjunction with Newcrest the Feeling 34 that is berthed at Gun Wharf.

On a charter involving 19 children and staff the boats would leave from Gun Wharf on Monday morning. During the week they could visit Bucklers, hard the birthplace of 3 of the English fleet at Trafalgar - the museum is fantastic. A day would be spent in Portsmouth harbour where a visit looking over the Victory is a must as is a trip to the top of the Spinaker tower. We would explore Chichester harbour, enjoy shallow water and rowing boats, and investigate woodlands and climb trees. A trip to Ryde Marina would include drying out and swimming from an excellent sandy beach. Whilst moored in Cowes Roads – just off Cowes harbour, half a day could be spent enjoying the thrill of Rib rides in our 225hp Ribeye 7.50

Learning by experience of both the old and the new sailing systems leaves the students with the knowledge that seamanship involves training the mind to understand all the aspects of both the weather and the sea. They will have learnt that even the most modern technology cannot compensate for lack of experience.
